Ek Balam Pueblo
We had a very nice time in the Mayan village. Ben thought it was the best place in Mexico because there were 4 puppies at the "hotel" (kind of like camping in beds). Liam liked the pool where he used a pail to take water from the shallow end and pour it into the deep end to make it deeper. He actually seemed to understand when I told him it would not work. When the kids played on the street many village children came out to join them. The village was full of all kinds of animals - dogs, turkeys, chickens, pigs, sheep or goats, cows. The dogs were heard many times during the the night (sounded like about 200 of them) and the roosters started about 4 am. Still, we liked being there. We could easily walk a path to the ruins but could not enter that way because of a barbed wire fence. A highlight of the visit was a trip to a private cenote in a deep cave where we were the only people other than the owner and his kids.

Sounds like a great time. How was the food and where the spanish/Mayan classes worthwhile?
ReplyDeleteThe food was great - vegetarian, prepared by a young Italian who, with his girlfriend, was running the hotel. The language instruction did not happen since the owner was away, but Sarah learned some Mayan from the local young people who worked in the hotel and from people in the pueblo who spoke Spanish and Mayan. Chris, which "comment as" type did you use to comment? We haven't been able to figure how to do it without signing in.
ReplyDeleteHi there,
ReplyDelete;I'm having trouble posting a comment....this is my 3rd try.
The boys LOVED staying in the village. Ben started to speak Spanish to people, and Liam spent time playing with local kids in the street. Mom did neglect to tell of our miserable night with boys and Grandma sick and needing multiple trips to the bathroom. Thank goodness Valladolid and laundry facilities were not far away.
Well, that worked! I guess anonymous is my blog name.
