Last week Nathan and I caught a 20+ pound shovel nose shark. After 45 minutes of wrestling it through the surf, Nathan was able to grab its tail and bring it to shore. We let it go after the picture.
Today, Kong, Kaydee, Kayla, Nathan and I went fishing at Del Mar. We caught Perch, Corbina, and Croaker. We ate all of these tonight.
Another delicious feast. Glad to know that the shark is not dangerous to humans.
ReplyDeleteAre those sharks bottom feeders? Or will they take a chunk out of a human?
ReplyDeleteDid it swim away after you let it go?
They are in the ray family (it is actually called a guitar fish) and have a mouth on the bottom similar to a ray.
ReplyDeleteIt did swim away when we let it go.

When I was an Observer we used to let go all the halibit in the catch as they were a prohibited species for foreigners. Our trainers told us to never pick them up by the tail or we'd break their spine!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad your shark swam away. I looked the guitar fish up and it's supposed to be pretty good eating.(?)
