A much better weekend for hiking

This weekend was beautiful in San Diego. We repeated the Mount Woodson hike on Saturday with a party of 12 people. We had a nice lunch at the top after Tui completed her death defying climb onto potato chip rock.

On Sunday Tui and I hiked up Mt Miguel which is the mountain by our house with  all of the radio towers on it.  This was about a 5 mile hike but very steep with lots of loose stones.  There were some great views of the San Diego at the top so it was worth it.

  1. What is that in your hand? How long does it take you to hike 5 - 7 miles up and down?

  2. In my hand is a horny toad which is really a lizard. Perhaps Ben can give us the technical name.

The 7 mile hike took us around 2:40 walking time. The 5 mile hike took us a little over 3 as it was much steeper. This was very similar to the steep parts on the Ramona hike, however much longer.

  3. The photo of Tui on potato chip rock is surreal! It looks like she is suspended in mid-air.

Ben is about the look up the scientific name for the horned toad. Quite amazing camouflage.

  4. Ben says that the scientific name for the horned lizard is Phrynosoma coronatum.

  5. I think the scientific names are a big joke on the rest of us by the scientists.

Tui wants to know if it poisonous and won't let me sleep in bed till she finds out. Can Ben check?
