Our cedar tree died and had to be removed before it fell on the house. Our backyard feels bare now. We all miss the cedar tree. I tried to count the rings in one of the logs that came off the tree, and reached only 50. I think the log was from the split crown though, and not accurate. I need to climb up the remaining stump to do my count. What should I plant around the stump now to fill in the area, and soften the treehouse? Any suggestions?
It is so sad when a big tree dies. It just seems that they should be there for ever. I am looking out of Tim's windows at the bamboo shoots that grow fast and probably are about 20 feet tall now. Will they grow in Seattle? I think they would reach the height of the tree house in a few years. Or planters on the platform?

Maybe flowering bushes or a tall hedge would block out the houses and blend in with the tree house without blocking the upstairs view.
ReplyDeleteI have considered bamboo, but decided potentially too invasive, and certainly not native. Bushes are a definate possibility. Maybe a laurel which although non-native, seems to fit in around here OK, and grows really fast. We have the lovely Nootka rose bush (or soemthing like that) as well as the spring flowering current which is quite lovely.... So much to consider.
ReplyDeleteSarah check out todays NYT home section. There is a really interesting, 3 pg. spread about a man who has built fairy tale structures for his home, on 20 acres near Sedro Wooley.
